In Q2 of 2012, Boardgamegeek.com shut down a significant chunk of their play statistics pages, because they were unoptimized and someone was harvesting them daily or worse.  That also put an end to my quarterly ‘epidemiology’ report.

This January, I finally got around to snapshotting game rankings so that I could at least generate a quarterly report on what games had broken into the top ranks lately.  The report below shows which games have had a significant positive jump in ratings between January 1 and March 31 of this year.

In the ‘Board games’ category, that’s any jump of +100 or better.  In the other categories, the jump currently has to be +350 or better.  There’s no data for ‘Strategy games,’ because I failed to notice my data collection script missed the first page of results for it back in January.
